Everyone had a different experience on each one's first day of duty. Some may feel nervous especially when it's his or her first job since graduate and some are over-confident. These things may lead to failure. Failure in a sense that one may create a negative first impression. Here are some tips to make a first day of work successful.
Dress Well
You must look good and elegant that you can earn the respect and trust of your co-workers especially the superiors. This will also boost your confidence. But keep in mind the dress-code (if any) and how your office mates dressed-up.
Be On-time
If you don't know how much time it will take a ride to your office, go early. But too early is not good, so try to estimate. Many workers come to their work very early during the first day. This will create a bad impression when you can't keep up. Just try to avoid future issues for safety.
Report to Immediate Head
This is an important step to report to your immediate head for orientation because maybe there are further instructions and job walk-through. Your immediate head will instruct you on what to do if you are in doubt and don't know how to start. Take notes because it will help you a lot during the execution of work. Feel free to ask question if you are in doubt.
Try to Adjust and Adopt
A new job means a new environment, you will be encountering new different people, different rules to abide, and new ambiance as well. To be successful in this new job, you'll need to adjust yourself and adopt the new work environment. This is an easy task to do that we think, but the most difficult to accomplish. The best way to adopt the new environment is by observing the way your new co-employee behave while working. Just give a smile to your fellow worker and talk less and work more.
Be Productive
Do your task free from any doubt and confusion. Don't be a perfectionist yet. Just do your job the way you think it best. Be resourceful and do some initiative. Just make the best that you can to accomplish a task.
Make a daily list for the accomplished work. Just list down all the task that you have done during the day and you will be ok. Love your work. Everyone, during the first day of work feel uncomfortable, just bring your whole being on your work place and you're good to go. Don't close your mind, set it to like your job. Be open to accept changes so that you can easily understand and accept your new world.
